Some people I could have interviewed would have given me the most basic answers to this interview, but I chose the front desk RA and he gave the most truthful answers. He gave me tips that could be used in everyday life of a college student. I am going to implement his advice into my life by using an organizer, trying different classes to make sure I like my major, and being engaged in the school.
Getting organized is something that everybody will tell you is important. I am the kind of person who is messy and only uses a planner for the first two weeks. Thats going to change though, I saw how the RA used his and thought it was easier than trying to remember all the due dates for every class. Organizers are also good for me because you can get cute girly ones and they also have calendars so I can keep important test dates and birthdays.
As I continue through my college courses I hope to find that I chose the right major. The RA told me he took a classes where he shadowed a gym teacher and that class made him change his major. While I don’t want to change my major I hope to find classes that make me fall more in love with International Business. I plan on taking classes that push me towards my interests just like the RA did. I want to also shadow someone in the field of International Business, I think that would be a great learning experience.
I want to get involved as much as I can, taking seven classes won’t stop me from making friends and having monarch pride. Going to games and joining clubs is a part of the college experience and I am going to take his advice and try to get involved as much as I can. Getting involved means having the spirit and wanting to do more at the school than just school work. The RA told me he got over his home sickness by getting involved and I want to do that because I don’t want to sit in my dorm 24/7 and do nothing but wish I was with my family.
The advice given to me is eye opening in the way that shows that even older college student went through the same rough times. By taking his advice and using an organizer, trying different class to confirm my major, and getting involved I hope to have the best first year at ODU. Sometimes it just takes asking other students what to do to figure out how I am going to go about things, and it really has helped me to get advice from older students. I, hopefully, will see these point implemented in my life here soon.
